City events
Prague hosts a full calendar of events throughout the year, ranging from annual events such as the Prague Christmas & Easter markets to large international events such as the Prague marathon.
5th–13th March 2008 – One World Festival 2008
This year Prague is host to this annual documentary film festival for international human rights.
24th–27th April 2008 – BookWorld – Industrial Palace Prague – Holešovice Exhibition Grounds
The Czech literary community gathers to meet foreign writers and discuss current trends in poetry and fiction. 600 exhibitors from 26 countries are expected with an anticipated 20,000 visitors.
1st May 2008 – Labour Day and Majales
Public holiday. Sightseeing as normal. Shops have limited opening times. Majales is spring festival celebrated in Prague by a student’s parade from Jan Palacha, Wenceslas Square, to the Old Town Square.
8th May 2008 – Liberation Day (1945)
This Czech holiday celebrates the Soviet liberation of the Czech Republic.
Public holiday. Sightseeing continues and shops have limited opening times.
10th May 2008 – 11th May 2008 – Prague Marathon Weekend
The Prague International Marathon is known as the world’s most international marathon, with two-thirds of runners coming from 55 different countries. The main race takes place on the Sunday and is along one of the most beautiful routes in the world. The weekend offers something for everyone with a host of activities and fun runs.
5th July 2008 – Cyril and Metodius Day
These 9th-century Christian missionaries were patrons of learning and education. Public holiday. Sightseeing continues and shops have limited opening times.
28th October 2008 – Independent Czechoslovak State Proclamation Day
Public holiday. Sightseeing continues and shops have limited opening times.
